Scheduled reports fail intermittently with “Error occurred when gathering data for exportation” on large JQL results when there are too many custom fields attached to the issue

Description
Scheduled reports fail when the JQL returns a large number of issues, and the template collects a lot of custom field data per issue with the same report succeeding on some runs and failing on others with no change to the JQL, template, or schedule. Audit Logs show “Error occurred when gathering data for exportation” for the failed runs.

Pre-conditions

• Xporter for Jira Cloud installed
• A project with several thousand issues (tested with 8161 issues)
• An Excel template that iterates over all issues and maps several fields per issue.

How to reproduce

1. Create a scheduled report with a JQL that returns 8000 - 10000 story issues with the template attached.

Actual result/Attachments
Scheduled runs fail intermittently, with the Audit Logs showing “Error occurred when gathering data for exportation” for each failed run.

Expected result
The export completes, and the file is generated and delivered on every run, regardless of the number of issues returned by the JQL.

Workaround
Split the JQL into smaller ranges or include fewer custom fields for the template to fetch for each export run.
