Jira Data Center 9.12.30
Xray Enterprise 2.2.3
Description
Description
When configuring Xray Test fields as Required via Jira Field Configuration, Jira ignores the required constraint and allows Test issues to be created with empty values.
This affects Xray-managed fields on the Test issue type:
- Pre-Conditions association with a Test
- Manual Test Steps
Despite being marked as required, Jira does not enforce validation.
Pre-Condition
- Jira Data Center instance
- Xray Enterprise installed and enabled
- Field Configuration applied to the project
How to reproduce
- Go to Jira Settings → Issues → Field configurations
- Edit the Field Configuration used by the project
- Mark “Pre-Conditions association with a Test” as Required
- Mark “Manual Test Steps” as Required
- Create a new Test issue
- Leave the required field(s) empty
- Click Create
Actual result / Attachments
- Jira allows the Test issue to be created
- No validation error is displayed
- Required constraint is ignored
- Fields remain empty after issue creation
Expected result
- Jira should block Test issue creation
- A validation error should be shown for missing required fields
- The Test issue should not be created until:
- A Pre-Condition is associated, and/or
- Manual Test Steps are defined
Version
- Jira Data Center: 9.12.30, 10.3.12
- Xray Enterprise 2.2.3
Workaround
There is currently no supported workaround.
- Jira Field Configuration “Required” flag is ignored for these fields
- Users must rely on process checks rather than technical enforcement
