Description
Problem Statement: Linking test cases to folders, subtasks, stories, and epics in Xray Cloud currently requires multiple manual actions across different screens and issue types. There is no guided or streamlined flow to establish these relationships in a single interaction. As a result, test cases can be accidentally misplaced or become "orphaned" due to incorrect linking, and maintaining the relationships between Jira stories, subtasks, tests, and folders requires significant ongoing manual effort. The risk of human error is high, particularly for teams onboarding to Xray or managing large test suites.
Impact: Affects QA teams of all sizes but is especially pronounced during onboarding and in large test suites where the volume of linking actions is high. Teams report that the maintenance overhead of keeping test-to-requirement relationships accurate is a significant daily burden. Misplaced or incorrectly linked tests reduce traceability confidence and undermine the value of Test Coverage reporting. Reported as a structured feedback item by an active QA team. Impacts usability, retention, and onboarding success.
Current Workaround: Teams rely on manual discipline to maintain linking accuracy. No automation or guided flow exists within Xray to assist with this. Some teams use Jira Automation rules for partial workarounds but these require admin-level setup and are not Xray-native.
The team consistently flag concerns around test cases that can be accidentally "lost" due to incorrect linking, and that switching between tests to copy or compare information compounds the problem due to the number of manual steps involved.
